Profile ~ Barbara Burns Maynard, Vermont - 2002

 

Barbara Burns MaynardBarbara has been a physical education teacher and coach at Norwood Union High School since 1977.  During that time, she has coached field hockey (25 years), softball (21 years), JV basketball (9 years), and varsity golf (1 year).  She has also coached elementary basketball for 4 years and Little League for 6 years.

Her league affiliations include the Vermont Field Hockey Coaches Association since 1981.  She was the originator of this group, and has served as the secretary-treasurer since 1981.  She was one of the originators of the Twin State Field Hockey Game between Vermont and New Hampshire that started in 1981.  She has been responsible for setting up tryouts, a dinner and the program since 1984.  The 18th game was played this year.  She also has served for 12 years as the coach representative on the Vermont Principal’s Field Hockey Committee.

Records for her softball teams are not available.  Field hockey teams overall record is 229-68-81.

Barbara is the recipient of the Pathfinder Award from NAGWS.  She received the Distinguished Service Award for the Vermont Field Hockey Coaches Association, and the Division II Coach of the Year three times for her work as a field hockey coach.  She was the head Twin State Field Hockey Coach for 2002 and the assistant Twin State Field Hockey coach for 3 years.
