Profile ~ Cathy Burt Shachoy, Massachusetts - 1996

 

Cathy has served as a basketball official at the varsity level and for the Bay State Games.  She has also been a Cable TV Commentator for Norwood High School Field Hockey and an assigner for the MIAA South Sectional Basketball Tournament officials.

She is affiliated with the South Suburban League Board of Officials and served as Board President from 1985-1987, Basketball Chairperson from 1982-1985, and a rater from 1972-1994.

At Norwood High School, Cathy coached field hockey and softball.  Her field hockey teams (1974-1984) achieved a team record of 110-23-25.  Her record from 1979-1984 was 86-9-13.  IN 1984, her team was undefeated and unscored upon.  Her softball teams, from 1974-1985, had a record of 119-39.

Cathy has held a field hockey rating for a total of 10 years and a softball rating for 26 years.  She was the MIAA Field Hockey Tournament Director from 1988-1990.

Extensive is the only word to describe Cathy’s tournament involvement.  In 1982 and 1984, her field hockey teams won the Bay State League Championships.  In 1974, her softball team won the Bay State League Championship and was tournament finalists.  Her softball teams have qualified for tournament play ten times (1974-1978, 1980-1984).  Under her coaching, the Norwood field hockey teams qualified for MIAA tournament play from 1978-1984.

AS an official, Cathy has officiated in the MIAA Basketball Tournaments for the past 16 years.  She has officiated in sectional finals several times and Eastern Massachusetts finals twice.  For seven years she officiated in MIAA field hockey tournaments, including the 1988 Eastern Massachusetts finals.

Cathy was named the 1984 Division I Field Hockey Coach of the Year by the Boston Globe and the 1982 Field Hockey Coach of the Year by the Daily Transcript.  She was cited for her 20 years as a basketball official in 1992.
