Profile ~ Edna Fraser, Connecticut - 2002

 

Edna FraserIn addition to her duties and commitment as a teacher of physical education and athletic director at Foran High School in Milford, CT, Edna has been a coach of volleyball, basketball and softball for twenty years.  She has also been a rated official for volleyball, basketball and softball for twenty years.

She has been affiliated with the Connecticut High School Coaches Association from 1976-1986, serving as softball chair from 1973-1976; with the ECIAC, serving on the softball committee from 1973-1976 (co-chairperson in 1974 and chairperson 1975-1980); the Southwest Board of Officials from 1957-1980 (chair 1974-1975); the Connecticut DGWS from 1957-1980 (volleyball official; 1957-1980, softball chair 1061-1971, basketball official 1957-1965); the New Haven Tipoff Club (1980-1986, all-county committee 1982-1984, chair of the scholar-athlete committee 1984-1986).

Edna holds a national volleyball rating, is a national ASA softball official, and a national basketball official.

Her involvement in championship play includes: the Connecticut State Basketball tournament (1973-1974) and the Connecticut State Softball Tournament 1973-1991).  For 12 years, Edna was a member of the Raybestos Brakettes, beginning in April 1953 and continuing until May, 1983.  During this time, she witnessed the transition of an average team that played in Connecticut to a National Championship team that earned a national title in 1958.  Also at this time, Edna became the Director of Athletics at Foran High School, a role she had been preparing for during the years when she was unofficially functioning in this position.
