Profile ~ Jacqueline G. Haslett, Massachusetts - 2004

 

Jacqueline HaslettJackie has been involved as a basketball and field hockey official in Greater Boston and Suburban Massachusetts for ten years.  She has also coached basketball, field hockey, softball, and volleyball.  She has served as a volunteer official for the Quincy YMCA and church leagues (1962-1963).  Additionally she has conducted basketball workshops for the Southern Board of Officials (1965-1966).

Jackie has been affiliated with the Boston Board of Women Officials (secretary, 1967-1969), basketball judging committee (1967-1974), the Bay State League Women’s Division member (1964-1968, president 1967-1968), the New England Field Hockey Association Executive Board (1958-1960), and with the US Field Hockey Association as a local A official.  Jackie officiated basketball for 12 years, field hockey for 8 years and volleyball for 2 years.

Her coaching career has included: Boston State College volleyball for 5 years and softball for 1 year, Norwood High School field hockey (1964-1968) and basketball (1964-1968), Mahar Regional High School where she developed the girls’ athletic programs in field hockey, basketball, and softball and began a junior high intramural basketball program (1958-1962), and Proctor High School in Vermont where she initiated the junior varsity and varsity basketball programs (1956-1958).

She coached her Boston State college volleyball team to the first place finish in the first Women’s State College Volleyball Championships.  She also officiated the State College Field Hockey championships in 1971.

She has been a member of the Boston Field Hockey Association (1964-1967).  During that time she served as vice president (1969), chair of the high school field hockey Sports Day (1965-1967), and Club Team Captain in 1969.  She was a member of the Hampshire Field Hockey Association (1961-1962) and the Vermont Field Hockey Association (1957-1960) where she worked to increase membership which tripled during her tenure.

Jackie has been an active member of the International Association of Physical Education and Sports for Girls and Women, serving in Finland, Sweden, Yugoslavia, and Japan.  She has also presented papers addressing the historical perspective of the role of women in professional sports.  Her lecture topics included: Women in sport in the United States: Historical Perspectives, Sport Systems in the United States, and Women’s sports Programs in the United States.

Jackie has been a player/member in the U.S. Field Hockey Association, the New England Field Hockey Association (executive board member and club president), and the Amateur Softball Association.
