Profile ~ Judith B Kennedy, Massachusetts - 2005

 

Judith KennedyJudith is a teacher of physical education and a coach at Newton South High School.  She has coached field hockey from 1970-1974 and 1978-1979.  She has also been a player in the Boston and Northeast Field Hockey Associations.  From 1974-1977 and 1981-present, she coached girls volleyball.  From 1973-1989, Judith coached girls gymnastics.  In 1984 she began coaching boys’ volleyball – a position she currently holds.  She was the girls’ basketball coach from 1970-1973.

Her league/board affiliations include: the Dual County League Coaches for Field Hockey (which she organized and ran) from 1970-1980; the Dual county League for Gymnastics (1970-1986); and the boys’ and girls’ Volleyball League (current).  She is the current MIAA representative for boys’ volleyball and co-representative for girls’ volleyball to the MIAA.

Team records are unavailable, but both her girls and boys teams have been in state volleyball tournaments from 1992 to the present.

Judith has been recognized by several organizations for her contributions to sport:  the National Federation of Interscholastic Coaches named her the Volleyball Section I Coach of the Year in 1977.  She was inducted into the Massachusetts Volleyball Coaches Hall of Fame.
