Profile ~ Marie Sampson, Connecticut - Jan, 1995

 

Marie is a member of the Board of Directors of the Education Network, the Connecticut Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance, and the CFHADB.

Her long coaching career has included coaching girls’ high school basketball for 29 years, tennis for 12 years, badminton for 10 years, volleyball for 5 years, and gymnastics for 5 years.  Her basketball teams have qualified for the State Tournament for 8 years as well as posting a 20 year career of better than a .500 record, winning the Championship in 1980.  Many of her teams have qualified for post-season play in badminton, volleyball, and track& field.  For five years, Marie worked with Special Olympics as a gymnastics coach.

In addition to a career in coaching, Marie has been an active field hockey official for 30 years.  A great deal of her work has been concentrated in the area of recruiting and training officials.  She was named the 1990 “Official of the Year” and the Waterbury Academy of Karate has honored her with heir award for contribution for the community in the area of karate training.

Her professional involvement has included working as State Chairperson for badminton post-season tournament, coordinator of field hockey umpires schedule, and chairperson of the Nutmeg Field Hockey Officials’ Association.
