Profile ~ Rebecca Stromenger, Connecticut - 2003

 

Rebecca StromengerRebecca taught physical education at Darien High School where she also coached tennis for 28 years, field hockey for 25 years, and basketball.  Weekends, she umpires a field hockey fall schedule for the Fairchester League and the BOCES in New York.  She has officiated basketball for FCIAC, but gave it up in the 1980’s.  Rebecca is currently affiliated with the Stuyvesant Field Hockey Board of Officials and the New York State Certified Board of Officials and is a field hockey Level A official.

Field hockey and tennis teams coached by Rebecca have played in many tournaments.  Her field hockey teams played in the State semi-finals in 1973 and 1978; in 1981 they were the state champs; state finalists in 1981 and 1982, state finalists in 1983; state champ in 1984. 

Tennis teams coached by Rebecca won the State Team Title in 1976; State Doubles Champions in 1979; State finalists from 1980-1982, 1985,1986, and 1989; FICAC wins in 1975, 1984-1986, and 1988; and State Champions in 1983, 1984.

Rebecca was inducted into the University of Dayton Athletic Hall of Fame in 1981.  She was inducted into the Chimineda/Juyliene High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 1982.  The Connecticut High School Association recognized her as the Outstanding Coach of Girls Tennis.  In 1995 she was inducted into the Connecticut women’s Basketball Hall of Fame for officiating.  In 1996 Rebecca was inducted into the Connecticut High School Coaches Hall of Fame.
