Profile ~ Arlene E. Gorton, Rhode Island - 1989

Arlene is currently a Professor of Physical Education and Associate Director of Athletics at Brown University.  She has been an administrator, coach, and faculty member who is involved in all facets of women’s sports since 1954.  She has been responsible for the development of the women’s competition in the Ivy League.

In addition to her coaching, she was active as a DGWS national official in softball and basketball.  Arlene has also served as site director and EAIAW representative at regional soccer championship play and at national levels for AEAW, NCAA, and EAIAW swimming and ice hockey tournament play.

Among her awards is the Presidential Medallion in 1976 from EDA-AAHPERD, Outstanding Citizen Award in 1986, and the Rhode Island YWCA Outstanding Woman Award.
